ChatGPT Business for Companies: What It Does, What It Costs, What's Missing
ChatGPT Business is OpenAI’s team plan at $20 per seat per month billed annually, while amaiko brings a personal memory that follows you into Microsoft Teams, specialists for your business systems, and AI processing exclusively in the EU. For a mid-sized company, the choice depends less on the seat price than on whether the AI should know your own business.
What you’ll take away from this article:
- ChatGPT Business costs $20 per Standard seat per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, with a minimum of two seats.
- Business data isn’t used for training by default.
- Processing isn’t bound to the EU, and even with EU storage, a copy of every prompt sits in the US for a limited time.
- In Slack and Teams, @ChatGPT runs through a shared service account and doesn’t automatically carry over your personal memory.
- amaiko costs €41.58 per user per month billed annually, answers in Teams with the memory amaiko has built for you, and processes AI exclusively in the EU.
What is ChatGPT Business?
Until summer 2025, the plan was called “ChatGPT Team”. OpenAI renamed it on August 29, 2025 without changing features or prices. It’s aimed at companies with two or more users and comes with team administration: central billing, SAML sign-in, connectors to Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub and Microsoft 365, and since May 2026 so-called workspace agents for recurring workflows.
At its core, it’s still the chat many employees know from personal use, with a company account on top.
How much does ChatGPT Business cost per user?
OpenAI sells two seat types. A Standard seat costs $20 a month billed annually and $25 billed monthly, and a Premium seat with five times the usage costs $100 or $125. On April 2, 2026, OpenAI cut the Standard seat by $5 a month. A workspace needs at least two seats. Even on its German pricing page, OpenAI quotes prices in US dollars.
amaiko costs €41.58 per user per month billed annually (€499 a year) or €49.90 billed monthly. Specialists for systems like HubSpot, Personio or Jira are added per seat. An amaiko seat is therefore pricier than an OpenAI Standard seat. The next three sections cover what it delivers in return.
Is ChatGPT Business GDPR-compliant?
OpenAI signs a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR for Business, but only once you fill out the DPA form. By default, OpenAI doesn’t use business data for training.
Location is where it gets harder. OpenAI is rolling out EU storage for Business gradually, and it isn’t available to all customers yet. It covers only stored content, not where the models run, and a copy of every prompt and response stays in the US for a limited time for abuse monitoring. Data residency that includes processing is available only to eligible Enterprise and Edu customers. OpenAI is not listed on the official EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework participant list (checked October 10, 2026), and its contract bases transfers on Standard Contractual Clauses. Sending personal data to the US this way has to be safeguarded and documented under Art. 44 et seq. GDPR.
amaiko is GDPR-compliant and ISO 42001-conformant, stores all data in German data centers and processes AI exclusively within the EU. Our article on AI assistants hosted in Germany explains why storage location versus processing location decides the question.
Does ChatGPT Business know your company?
Only as far as you show it. Business has saved memories, and OpenAI lists memory from past chats for this plan as “coming soon”. If you connect Google Drive or SharePoint, the plan reads from them at the moment you ask and builds no index of its own. Admin-managed SharePoint sync is available only on Enterprise and Edu.
amaiko builds a persistent corporate memory from every conversation. Knowledge can stay personal or apply to the whole company, with Microsoft Teams also to a single team, and amaiko always works with each user’s own permissions. If you explained to amaiko three weeks ago which clients belong to which project, you don’t have to repeat it today. More in our article on persistent AI memory.
Where does your team work with the AI?
The plan runs in OpenAI’s own app and in the browser. In Slack and Microsoft Teams, an administrator can set up @ChatGPT. There it runs through a service account rather than your personal account. According to OpenAI, your chat history, saved memories and custom instructions don’t automatically carry over, and @ChatGPT doesn’t automatically inherit your access to files, apps or private channels.
amaiko is the same assistant in Teams as in the web app, with your memory and your permissions in Microsoft 365. Slack integration is coming soon. With Microsoft 365, amaiko also reaches out on its own, with a morning briefing or urgent emails from your inbox. The specialists get work done in the connected systems: they draft emails in Outlook or Gmail, schedule meetings, and look up contacts in HubSpot or your remaining vacation days in Personio. See what that looks like for your team in a live demo.

| In Teams and Slack | @ChatGPT via a service account, personal memory doesn’t automatically carry over | In Teams with your personal memory and your own permissions; Slack coming soon |
How does a team switch from ChatGPT Business to amaiko?
The switch doesn’t take a project. An administrator sets up the workspace and connects Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, then every user signs in with their own account. Specialists like HubSpot, Personio or DATEV are added per seat in the marketplace.
Memory starts with the first conversation. After a few weeks, amaiko knows the projects, clients and workflows the team discusses with amaiko, without anyone having to maintain instructions. More than 200 people work with amaiko every day. If you’re weighing Claude instead of ChatGPT, here is the same math for Claude Team and Enterprise.
